Twilight Year in Review

Before we start review 2008, it seems important to mention that on December 31, 2007, exactly one year ago, the idea for a website/podcast spawned from my head. *taps self on back* Oh yeah, Rob and Kristen were cast too.

January 2008 - Our email, forums and first episode were debuted in this month. Apparently we weren't into posting important stuff yet :)

February 2008 - Casting announcements for the movie were made on throughout this month.  I can't believe I didn't like Peter Facinelli at the time. I love that man.  Janella also became notorious for digging up set pics and side scripts on the Internet.

March 2008 - We had the most posts this month (44), mostly concerning pictures and too many interviews for me to handle. We also fell in love with Taylor Lautner when  he was cast as Jacob in this month. Stephenie Meyer posted an extra called Being Jacob Black which gave us some nice insight into his head. We should've known Jake's POV would pop up somewhere else (ahem BREAKING DAWN BOOK TWO WOOT WOOT)

April 2008 - I finally realized that Breaking Dawn WAS in fact the last book of the series. Midnight releases were planned and we got our first video interview with Taylor. MTV brought us numerous cast interviews, too. Twilight fans worldwide were outraged by The Bloated Toad. ("WTF?! IT DOESN'T EVEN SOUND ITALIAN!!")

May 2008 - The first promo pics and teaser trailer were released! The Host was also released and proved that Stephenie is capable of writing non-vamp books worth reading. Twilight Tuesdays became the best days of the week (especially on May 20th wink) A description of the Breaking Dawn cover and preface were leaked.

June 2008 - I spent the month studying and sleeping (only 16 posts haha). It was Edward's birthday and the Cullen Crest was born.

July 2008 - We reached 100,000 hits! Exciting days. The ghastly cover of Entertainment Weekly shocked us all. Scenes from the Penelope DVD were leaked on youtube and the two official trailers were released. Stephenie confused us with the quotes of the day about vampire bachelor parties and what not. The movie calendar was released and now they're out of print (grr). So much theorizing and spoilers in this month :)

August 2008 - Breaking Dawn was released and the mania that resulted was quite fun to read about! I fell in love with Seth and I think I converted to team Jacob. Twilight was pushed back to November 21 (because HP6 was moved to next July).  I remember reaching over 500 subscribers too! The generally good month was ruined with the leakage of Midnight Sun. UGH.

September 2008 - Rob was big this month. I also complained a lot. Paramore announced that they will be contributing to the soundtrack.

October 2008 - The extended trailer was released and tv spots were plentiful. Lots of merch was sold at Hot Topic. 

November 2008- Decode was released, and 8 minute scene was leaked, lots of spoilers and THE MOVIE WAS FINALLY RELEASED.  And Rob bit Tyra. 

December 2008 - Action figures yaaay! Catherine Hardewicke and Summit announced that there will be a new director for New Moon (Chris Weitz) which is scheduled to be released Novemer 2009.  Michael Copon ruined my life. The out of print calendars and postponing of the Official Guide added to my misery as well.

Business.

Since we began the blog almost one year ago, I think it's safe to say that we've done pretty well for ourselves! The podcast is a different story...we really did try but it fell apart. The 10 people and one microphone was fun while it lasted (fun for me at least) but I think it's about time to take the podcast in a new direction. 

The first option is to forget about the podcast completley and remain building up the blog. The second option is for me to do 10-15 minute episodes by myself. I would talk about the books, particulary Breaking Dawn, and give you my opinions. Chapter by chapter let's say. The third option is that I find a new guest host (perhaps Caro if she's willing) every week or so to do the show with me because my ramblings can get to be pretty dull. If we were to choose option 3, I would need an editor because we've established that I can't edit 2+ audio tracks.

No Character Profiles for today :(

Apparently, the Official Guide IS NOT coming out today. Amazon, Barnes & Noble's and Borders have 3 different release dates, none of which are December 30, 2008. 

I was looking forward to getting it today :(

That's really atrocious management. If the release date of a TWILIGHT BOOK was postponed, shouldn't there be some kind of announcement? 

EDIT: Ah, nevermind. The Lexicon never fails. There was an anouncement.

Last night I was watching Degrassi on The N and there was a commercial with Kellan in it! It was for Hillary Duff's perfume called With Love, which I'm pretty sure came out a long time ago but KELLAN WAS IN IT! Watch it here (0:08)

Then, YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE IT,  a proactiv commercial came on with Jackson in it! I'd seen that commercial a billion times though. Seriously, they play it every break.

Jackson was in a few episodes of the show The War at Home. These (1,2) will make you laugh your pants off. (lord of the rings LOL) (uh, I'd start giggling madly too if Jackson told me I had "soulful eyes")

Team Taylor vs Team Arrogance: Team arrogance ALWAYS loses.

Honestly, why would anyone want to be on team arrogance? it just screams obnoxious. and this leads me into my mini rant on wanting Taylor for Jacob. Movie characters are NEVER the way they describe them exactly. Examples: Harry Potter- amazing casting choice, but not exactly how everyone imagines him. Hagrid- is not actually as tall as the books say he is (hmmm same situation as taylor anyone?) they work with camera angles!!!!! and some special effects which they can now AFFORD becuase we supported taylor in the first movie. Okay and some people will shoot me for this one but Robert Pattinson was not the way i pictured Edward (you admit it too. it wasn't for you either) he is good at being him but doesnt look like him (ehhemmmm, same situation?) also Ashley Greene as Alice? Shes wayyyyy taller than the book describes her but i dont see anyone trying to replace her with a fairy-sized person. And last but not least, are they going to replace ANY of the other Quileutes, becuase in the first movie, Quil and Embry did NOT look too buff. at all. In conclusion, Taylor stays end of story. and Copon is arrogant. anyone on his side loses

Copon thinks he's better than Taylor Lautner just because he has more muscle.

Rantings of the day:
1. He's lucky if he's even hired but I can tell you now that he will not have much support from fans
2. He's probably a bit jealous that a 16 year old kid if way more popular than he is.
3. If he's going to read ONE book, then why does he read Twilight and not New Moon? Cliff Notes, seriously? moron.
4. I think we can all see that he's a jerk with no personality traits besides arrogance. Jacob is charismatic, nice, funny blahblah and should be played by TAYLOR who is naturally charming and is perfect for the role.
5. So what if Taylor's shorter? They can make him taller with special effects. And if Summit doesn't want to spend money on that, then PUT HIM ON STILTS.
6. Taylor's been going to the gym 5 days a week to get in shape. That's DEDICATION. It would be unfair to not give him the role.
7. I believe Chris is a rational man who will make the right decision (coughTAYLORcough). But if he really doesn't keep Taylor for ANY part of the movie, then I will have to question his judgement.
8. A commenter on the TA post named Ally notes that Kristen should have a choice in the casting. No chemistry would make it so boring. There would be no love triangle and that's one the series biggest conflicts.

New Conspiracy!

MTV has a super interview with Ashley Greene in which she supports the return of Taylor Lautner. It's a good interview and I have to agree with her that Chris (yes, I am using first name terms now) knows his stuff when it comes to CGI and all that movie magic tech.

The article also said something about Taylor meeting with Chris on Friday (today) to discuss his recasting. So there IS still hope. I hope Chris sees all the potential and CHARMISMA! Taylor has to offer. I would be semi-ok with Taylor as pre-wolf Jacob. Better than nothing, but the whole new actor thing is still ridiculous. New director I can deal with because I actually like his movies.

You may remember my comment about how I don't think any man could truly relate to Bella's depression in New Moon? I still think that's true because men and women have different ways of dealing with broken hearts. But it's a good thing Kristen Stewart is a girl. (I am so queer)
Kristen will do well as depressed Bella because she can understand the Bella state of mind. The director is responsible for pulling everything together, but it's Kristen's job to deliver the despair. It's a lot of pressure but I think she's already great. Her natural personality reminds me of Bella as it is.

Soo Michelle tells me Ben Barnes has been confirmed as Aro. I can't find the link now but I'll get on it. I think its a VERY good casting decision. I'm still mad at summit but maybe only the first 80% of the movie will be a disaster. Oh wait. No Catherine. Nevermind, it's still an EPIC FAIL.

We will look back on this post one day when the movie comes out and we love it. But I'll continue venting for now.

New Moon scheduled to come out November 20, 2009.

NEW MOON DIRECTOR!

So Caroline clearly doesn't think that the new director is worthy news.

Chris Weitz has been confirmed! He directed The Golden Compass. I like that movie but it did horrendously in the box office. Hmm.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. TAYLOR LAUTNER IS GONE!?!?!?!?! I'm not liking this Copon guy but PRINCE CASPIAN? SERIOUSLY?!?! steven strait or bust.
Word has it that Copon is the new Jacob. like legit.
First of all, WAY TO BE CONSISTENT.
Secondly, the fans love Taylor.
Thirdly, SIUBGEIABVIVB AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Lastly, I, as a Jacob super fan, do not approve of Copon. Taylor has this thing about him that was perfect as young Jacob. Perhaps he'll be back as Seth. I can still dream right?

pps. this SUCKS. for now anyways. we'll see when the movie comes out.

(Un) Juicy News

Nyera told me to post some juicy news because she does not have internet (poor Nyera). I have none but the new director of New Moon has written a note to everyone. I think he will do a great job of directing New Moon because his other movies have that crisp quality that Twilight lacks. If he could just combine Catherine's quirkyness and his crispness then it would be great. I hope they don't stray too far from the book (most importantly the plot) Heres the link. New Moon DRAMA.

Soo Rachel tells me that Taylor might not return for New Moon because he doesn't meet Jacob's physical characteristics. First off, I really hope it's not true. It would be silly to get a new Jacob! Summit now has tons of money to mess around with graphics. PUT THE KID ON STILTS IF YOU HAVE TO. It'll just be so weird if they get a new Jacob. *cries* Here's an EW article.

It's good they have a tentative date set, but we'll have to wait and see who the new director will be and whether he/she will get a new Jacob. Chris Weitz (directed Golden Compass) has been offered the job so Summit is reaching out to male directors. I guess Rob and Kristen are really upset about Catherine leaving.

PS. If they do happen to get a new actor for Jacob, it BETTER be Steven Strait. Or else I'm quitting.

WHY IS SUMMIT TRYING TO SCREW EVERYTHING UP!?! They want a new director because they want the movie rushed because TIME=MONEY. What a bunch of losers. They don't care about the fans. They know all the fans will go see New Moon even if its garbage.

Apparently, she was FIRED. seriously? I guess Catherine's plans for New Moon meant the release would have been later than 2010, which Summit was against.
