OH MAN.

Catherine Hardewicke won't be directing New Moon. This stinks.
Apparently, she was FIRED. seriously? I guess Catherine's plans for New Moon meant the release would have been later than 2010, which Summit was against.
Here's Summit's press release.

If they get a MAN to direct New Moon, I will die.

MTV examines some possible directors.

I seriously want to throw my computer out the window! I am so MAD!! Seriously i will die to if some man directs new moon! That just isn't even right.

they can't do that!
i think that summit is on a high from making it big finally, so they think that they can just have any old person direct NEW MOON.
Catherine is what made that movie huge. Catherine made summit all that money, because Catherine is actually a good director!! its ridiculous what some of those people are saying!
ugh! I'm so MAD!
i swear though, if they get a man to direct that movie, just try to stop me from flying down to summit and hurting whoever came up with that idea. it'll make every twilight fan hate them.
a lot.

now that i've calmed down a bit, i just realized something.
if they DID, for some, ludicrous, messed up reason have a man direct it (which they would only do if they wanted to fail for the rest of their...company lives? ) then i think they should have Peter Jackson direct it!
he's so cool, and he has done some amazing movies, i think he would probably be the only guy who would be able to capture everything that is New Moon. but even though i think he's amazing, i would still have my doubts. women can see the perspective of men, but men can't see the perspective of women.
man, I'm pretty sure summit messed this one up.
nice job, guys.

hehhehehehe. dont like catherine. hehehehehehehe. if anyone knew who this was they would be surprised. hehehehe but you will not

and firing her does not mean that they will hire a man...
she was a nut. they want a non-nut. i can understand this decision.
they just need a woman who is not a nut. aka not catherine.

i agree, catherine is crazy but i think good movies come from directors who are a bit out there in perspective or are just plain crazy. do you agree?

peter jackson is the man. so is george lucas.

i'm sure there are some men directors that could direct new moon but i dont think it would be right. i think the director needs to be able to relate exactly to bellas feelings. i know men go through heartbreaks too but i think bellas depression is only something that can be truly understood by a girl. i'm probably biased. feel free to disagree with me though. i'd like lots of opinions.

ps. summit looks really crummy for firing one of the very few excellent WOMAN directors. it makes them look sexist even though the reason they fired her was for time and money reasons.

i dont think summit is being sexist at all in their decision

just idiots is all.

I don't know i think it's both ways, i mean i think it looks sexist but then i think it doesn't. I think it is going to negatively effect them anyway cause they are basically firing her because they want their money faster. She wanted to take her time and make it amazing, but they didn't want to wait that long to get their paws on the dough. Which is ridiculous.

But i agree that there are good men directors but i think twilight needs a woman's perspective too. Like you said Bite me, i mean a woman can relate to Bella, where a man really can't.

most of the directors in the MTV article seem to be able to pull of one part of the book, may that be drama, romance, action, special affects or what-have-you, but no one really seems capable to bring everything need to make this movie together.

I'm really thinking that they need a woman to direct it, because as Bite Me said, this is something that only a girl could understand fully.

but, the movie has not been made yet, so i can't really say how it will turn out. who knows, it might be ridiculously awesome!! (fingers crossed!)

What i don't really understand is why Summit wants to rush things. i know they're all excited with making it big and wanting things to move along quickly, but if having Catherine direct it means it won't be out until later than they wanted, it means she wants the movie to be as good as it can be. they'll still get their money in the end. they'll just have to learn to be patient.

i don't know about you, but I'd rather wait a little longer for the second movie and have it be good quality, then have it come out next year and the movie be terrible and cheap.

There's defiantly something to be said for having these movies made quickly. Unlike harry Potter, where the characters age with every book, several of the Twilight characters don't age at all... oh wait MOST of the don't.

The problem with having the movie out in three years+ means that that's how much it would be for the other three movies. Good for technology (we might get a decent Nessi in a few years) but not so good for the actors. That would mean nearly a decade would pass before we got to the final installment, maybe longer.

Can you imagine a 30 year old Edward?

While I don't think these the real reason that Summit fired her I do think that these reasons alone justify it in my mind. I don't want to have old/different actors playing characters.

A lot can happen in ten years. Actors could get bored with the projects, move on with life, or just plain get older.

I think that Summit wants the movies out while the books are fresh in our minds. Also if they keep the rest of the cast/crew then we'll probably be getting similar results anyways. You can't squeeze orange juice out of apples after all.

Maybe a new director could learn from the mistakes/criticisms of the first movie (MORE SPARKLES PLEASE!) while Catherine might think that the criticisms were unjust or become cynical over them.

We just have to think positively. The reason that the cast and crew tried so hard was because of the fans. If we abandon them now then who knows what we'll get!

That said I think that Summit had better put a lot of effort into finding the right person. There will be blood if they mess this up.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD. haha you got it Lola :)

I understand what you mean about Summit rushing movies to keep the hype up, but I'd honestly much rather wait for a good quality movie that something that was thrown together. there will still be hype when the movie comes out, whenever that happens to be.

just to clarify, i dont think summit is sexist because they did have legitimate reasons for getting a new director. it is just unfortunate that the twilight director was a woman. it looks like sexism from the outside looking in but us fans know the real deal.
